"Under the Cloud" Self-Portrait Series

Finally I am able to post up the finished series that I was working on last semester...

The "Under the Cloud" pieces are three works themed around depression and living a life accompanied by it. All three are self-portraits. I have focused so much more on being expressive through the way that I paint now. I spend a lot of time thinking about what I am going to paint but I feel I have progressed to a point where I can now spend just as much time thinking about how I want to paint it, technically. I want the physical feel of the pieces to reflect the content. I want the paint to fucking feel depressing. No control.

All were created using acrylic, marker, ink, and aerosol.

All three up in the Goldfish Gallery at Saint Francis:

Collab Pieces w/ Daniel Dienelt & Dusty Neal

I recently got involved in a couple collaboration pieces with a two good Fort Wayne friends of mine: Daniel Dienelt and Dusty Neal. With abstract style, each of us add our own touch to the pieces and when it seems suitable to the artist, it is passed to the next dude. Anything goes in this game. As Daniel explained to me, there are no rules on what to draw, paint, scratch, cut, spray, etc. Every artist's touch is accepted and hopefully throughout time, the piece starts to come alive with a ton of flavor. The goal is to get each artist's style to start interacting with the next through abstraction and expression. It was originally started between Dusty and Daniel but I asked both of them if I could get in on the action and they were definitely down...so we made it happen. So far I've been having soooo much fun with this project and I am thankful to be a part of it!

Daniel Dienelt is currently rebuilding his portfolio sites (I will post his site up shortly)

Starting new paintings for Student Show!

Doing a lot more work w/ depression during this 3 day blizzard and I must say I don't have cabin fever yet. More snow, more painting...so bring it on. Hopefully the more snow we get, the more inclined I will be to axe-murder my roommate. The panels I have built are 3' long and 1'1/2" wide so i'm definitely working with a large surface area. I have been extremely excited to make much more conceptual and abstract pieces while still maintaining a recognizable style. The whole process has been very cathartic and very expressive and I couldn't be more excited about the direction these are going in...

Here are some previews:

The paintings are mostly acrylic, ink, marker, and a little aerosol like usual.
Tell me what you all think!
